Suspicious driver was just trying to calm down in bad weather

Arrest and incident reports are collected from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies. Arrests are not convictions, and all suspects are innocent until proven guilty.

Surry

A vehicle was abandoned on Route 172, which appeared to have been in an accident on Dec. 27. The accident is believed to have occurred in Ellsworth and is being investigated by the Ellsworth Police Dept.

Blue Hill

On Dec. 24, a suspicious complaint was received. The incident is under investigation.

David Painter, 64, of Bar Harbor was traveling on the Mines Road on Dec. 24 when he lost control of his vehicle due to the road conditions. As a result, he collided with rocks at the bottom of an embankment but was able to drive the vehicle from the scene.

Traci Pelkey, 55, of Rockland struck a road sign on Dec. 25 while operating too fast for road conditions, police said. The vehicle had functional damage to the front.

A subject reported a potential protection order violation to authorities on Dec. 28. After speaking to a witness, police determined there was no evidence of a violation.

Sedgwick

On Dec. 29, a vehicle travelling on Caterpillar Hill hit a patch of ice, lost control, went into the opposing lane and crashed into another vehicle. The second vehicle ended up crashing into a tree. No injuries were reported and both vehicles were towed.

A vehicle operated by Isaiah Hatch, 18, of Deer Isle hit a patch of ice by Byards Point Road on Dec. 30. Hatch lost control of the vehicle and went off the road into a ditch and into a tree. No injuries were reported and the vehicle was towed.

Ellsworth

Shane Webber, 43, of Sedgwick was already in custody at Hancock County Jail, on two active arrest warrants, was turned back over to the jail without incident on Dec. 26.

Orland

On Dec. 26 Hancock County Sheriff’s Office assisted Maine State Police with a domestic incident which led to the arrest of a 52 year old Orland woman.

Deputy Mariza Gionfriddo responded to the Castine Road on Dec. 29 following a report of a suspicious person sitting in a vehicle at the end of a driveway. Gionfriddo spoke with the individual, who said they were just having a hard time operating in the poor weather conditions and were just trying to calm down.

As a result of a traffic stop, Shane Grindle, 50, of Ellsworth was arrested for Unlawful Possession of Scheduled Drugs, Class C, and Attaching False Plates, Class E.

Penobscot 

Darlene Brodie, 62, of Bucksport had a deer run into the side of her vehicle on Dec. 23.

While driving in slushy conditions, Tyler Stickney, 28, of Bangor went off the road and slid into a tree.
