Haystack Studio Walk-Through + End-of-Session Auctions
The end-of-session Studio Walk-Throughs provide program participants and the public with the opportunity to visit all the Haystack studios and view the work created during the session’s workshops. Walk-Throughs are free and self-guided.
A Silent Auction will be open throughout the duration of the Walk-Through. A Live Auction will begin at 5:00 PM. Auction proceeds benefit Haystack’s fellowship programs and studio improvements.

Contra Dance Benefit for Healthy Island Project
Some of Downeast Maine’s finest folk musicians are holding a series of concerts this summer raising funds for local nonprofit organizations doing vital work boosting community health and resilience. Supporting Healthy Island Project - a contra dance called by the lauded trad musician and dance leader Molly Gawler with music by BAMU Band & Friends (and Molly).
Come dance and support a wonderful organization. No experience needed. No partner needed. Just the dancing spirit and giving. Suggested donation at door= $20 or more!
Simply Summer: Small and Affordable Works
The Gallery Within at Reversing Falls Sanctuary, 818 Bagaduce Road, North Brooksville will start its summer art exhibitions with Simply Summer: Small and Affordable Works. Featuring works in a variety of mediums by 20 local artists. This exhibition celebrates accessible art with every piece priced under $200. The show offers visitors the chance to bring home original work from the region’s creative community at an approachable price point.
Stonington Six Road Race
Celebrate the Fourth of July and support the Island Community Center during the annual Stonington 6 road race. The Stonington 6 departs from the Community Center parking lot on the morning of July 4th. Participants will run/walk/stroll through a 10-kilometer (6.2-mile) course. A one-mile “Fun Run” is also offered and great for younger or older participants. Registration includes a t-shirt and benefits the Island Community Center. Register here.
July 4th Celebration
Come to historic Castine for an all-day, town-wide celebration of our shared history. Enjoy activities and events for all ages: festivities starting at 7 am with 5k road race/1k walk (register at dock), a parade at 10 am, historic conversations with the Penobscot Expedition leaders at Fort George at 1 pm, the town band at 4 pm on the common, and the Willy Kelly Band and fireworks by the dock at 7 pm.

Celebrate America 250 at the Bucksport Tea Party
Spend your Independence Day afternoon at a historic tea party hosted by the Bucksport Historical Society at the Town Gazebo. Hosted by Uncle Sam and Betsy Ross, this event features the Maine National Guard’s Army 195th band performing a variety of music. The Historical Society will serve authentic colonial cookies, while "Liberty Lemonade" and "Boston Harbor Iced Tea" will be available thanks to event sponsor Hannaford. Additionally, the Bucksport Historical Museum will be open for special holiday hours from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Double Bill at Dolly’s Coffeehouse
Mike and Susie Fay, and Maine Weather, will be the featured performers at Dolly’s Coffeehouse at the First Congregational Church of Blue Hill, Saturday, July 4th 7:00-9:00pm. Celebrating 47 years of performing together, Mike and Susie have an enormous eclectic repertoire that spans multiple genres of music from original songs, to folk, blues, Celtic, and beyond. Mike is a caller for Contra Dances and both he and Susie play in Contra Dance bands.

Lucy Wijnands Jazz Quartet @ Barncastle
Vocalist Lucy Wijnands has been a fixture on the NYC jazz scene from a very young age. She's a regular at jazz clubs throughout the city and has toured all over the world. Winner of the prestigious Ella Fitzgerald competition and the recipient of a President's Award for music, She's also sang in a 16-week residency with the world-famous Birdland Big Band. Lucy is well known to spellbind audiences with a delivery that is at once sly and soulful, playful and wise. In addition to singing, she is equally passionate about the visual arts, and is a highly accomplished painter. Her original artwork will be on display for sale the night of the concert.Joining her will be Dan Nicholas on guitar, Chris van Voorst, bass and Aaron Seeber, drums.

Seaside Series with Steve Hindy
Steve Hindy will present from his book based on the life of his grandfather, The Ali Hindy Story: A Muslim Immigrant in 20th Century America, published in 2025. This is the story of a 12-year-old Syrian Muslim boy who left his troubled homeland in 1894 with two other boys and traveled to Europe and then America in search of two goals: to marry and start a business.
Bagaduce Music House Party
DownEast New Music is an ensemble dedicated to bringing dynamic performances of chamber music by living composers to DownEast and MidCoast Maine. Cellist Clare Monfredo and composer-pianist Conrad Winslow will present an evening of cello and piano music featuring works by composers of different generations and cultures — including Pulitzer-winning Americans Kevin Puts and George Crumb, alongside today's varied voices Emily Praetorius and Cassandra Miller — culminating in a world premiere by Winslow.

Discussion Series: “American Revolutions: A Continental History, 1750–1804”
The Blue Hill Library will host a discussion series with local retired teacher Bill Case on the book American Revolutions: A Continental History, 1750-1804, by Alan Taylor. The discussions will take place from 1:00-2:00 p.m. over three Tuesdays, June 30, July 14, and July 21, leading to the July 25 event with author Alan Taylor. The American Revolution is often portrayed as a high-minded, orderly event whose capstone, the Constitution, provided the nation its democratic framework. Alan Taylor, a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, gives us a different creation story in this magisterial history. Bill Case is a retired high school and college history teacher with over fifty years of experience. In his career, Bill has taught U.S. History, AP U.S. History, Holocaust Studies, Public Policy and many other courses. This program is free and open to all, but space is limited, so registration is required and can be done at www.bhpl.net. Copies of the book will be available for checkout from the library. BHHT Intern-led Event: Tips and Ticks!
Join BHHT's summer intern, Casey, for tips and tricks when dealing with ticks! Stop by the table that is set up in the field at the Blue Hill Hayes & Service Trail trailhead for information on the little critters, the sprays that deter them, and all the associated risks and good-to-know information concerning both. The table will be set up from 10 AM to 12 PM, feel free to stop by before your hike! A tick drag will be occurring at 12 PM, where we will collect as many as possible and send them off for disease testing.

The Ladies Public Improvement Society of South Blue Hill will host a public celebration of the 125th anniversary of Central Hall, the iconic yellow meeting hall that has graced 306 Falls Bridge Road for a century and a quarter. From 2 to 7 p.m. on Sat. July 18, LPIS will host a silent auction at the Hall, featuring items and experiences generously donated by local businesses. Family Nature Walk and Magic Food Bus
Join the Blue Hill Heritage Trust and Healthy Peninsula for a relaxed, family-friendly walk along the Meadow Brook Mill Stream trail in Brooksville. Healthy Peninsula’s Magic Food Bus will also be there, which is a seasonal, traveling farm stand and mobile library that offers free, fresh local produce, books, and information about food security resources.
Registration is not required. The Meadow Brook Mill Stream trail has increased accessibility features which make it appropriate for wheelchairs, walkers, and strollers. All are welcome!
BHHT Intern-led Event: Exploring Forest History with Dendrochronology!
Trees are one of the forest's best record keepers, storing their stories just beneath the bark. Join BHHT Summer Intern Eleanor to learn more about the ecological history of Surry Forest and dendrochronology! Dendrochronology is a method of dating past events that have impacted tree growth, and is used as a tool to create records of shifts in climate and physical conditions. We’ll be learning how to use increment borers to investigate the growth records of trees, compare how historical events have impacted various tree species, and use our findings to create a hypothesized timeline of the forest.
Castine House & Garden Tour
The Castine Historical Society’s House & Garden Tour returns on July 24, offering a self-guided look inside twelve distinctive homes and three gardens in the historic seaside village of Castine, with proceeds supporting CHS exhibitions, educational programs, and community projects; tickets are $50 per person through July 12 and $60 from July 13–24, with details and sales at CastineHouseTour.com.

For nearly 40 years, the Sargentville Thursday Club has provided scholarships to local youth seeking A college degree or trade certificate/licensure. We annually host an amazing sale and Silent auction to raise money to support local libraries, schools, and kids. For nearly 40 years the Sargentville Thursday Club has awarded scholarships for local youth seeking a college degree or trade certificate/licensure. We annually offer two stunning, handmade quilts for raffle. See the quilts in all their glory at the Blue Hill Public Library, where you can also buy raffle tickets for $5 each or 3 tickets for $10. Palaver Strings at David’s Folly Farm: Benefit for Bagaduce Music
Bagaduce Music’s premier fundraiser of the year brings Grammy-nominated ensemble Palaver Strings to David’s Folly Farm in Brooksville for an intimate acoustic evening of live chamber music, food, and community. The program, Serenades, spans genres, eras, and styles, with works by Carlos Simon, Maurice Ravel, Laurie Anderson, J.S. Bach, Josef Suk, and Glenn Miller, performed by Palaver’s musician-led string ensemble. Guests are invited to arrive early for an elegant reception featuring artisanal charcuterie, local oysters, Tinder Hearth wood-fired pizzas and salads, and an assortment of wines, followed by a 7:00 p.m. concert celebrating Bagaduce Music’s mission to make music accessible along Maine’s coastline. PMM is excited to welcome guest chanteyman Stephen Sanfilippo for our August and September Chantey Singalongs. He’ll lead sea songs and chanteys on the concertina, many with catchy choruses for everyone to join in. Drop in for a few songs or stay for the whole evening—sing along or just listen. Stephen will also share stories and background on how chanteys were used as work songs at sea. All ages are welcome, and no experience is needed.
Blue Hill Maritime Heritage Festival
The Festival will be held in Blue Hill's historic village, centered on the scenic waterfront. Various activities will be occurring throughout the day, such as boat building demonstrations, wood carving, traditional boats on display, kiosks of organizations supporting or involved with the bay. On the water there will be more boats, many offering rides. There will be live music, food, and activities for kids.

Seaside Series: Ret Talbot
Ret Talbot will present from his book Chasing Shadows, a collaborative project with shark biologist Greg Skomal that covers the return of the white shark to the western North Atlantic. Ret Talbot is an award-winning journalist with over two decades of experience covering stories from some of the more remote corners of the globe. A collaboration between a scientist and a science writer, Chasing Shadows is the remarkable story of the resurgence of the white shark population in the western North Atlantic told largely through the eyes of the shark biologist who found himself in the middle of it.

Discussion Series: “American Revolutions: A Continental History, 1750–1804”
The Blue Hill Library will host a discussion series with local retired teacher Bill Case on the book American Revolutions: A Continental History, 1750-1804, by Alan Taylor. The discussions will take place from 1:00-2:00 p.m. over three Tuesdays, June 30, July 14, and July 21, leading to the July 25 event with author Alan Taylor. The American Revolution is often portrayed as a high-minded, orderly event whose capstone, the Constitution, provided the nation its democratic framework. Alan Taylor, a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, gives us a different creation story in this magisterial history. Bill Case is a retired high school and college history teacher with over fifty years of experience. In his career, Bill has taught U.S. History, AP U.S. History, Holocaust Studies, Public Policy and many other courses. This program is free and open to all, but space is limited, so registration is required and can be done at www.bhpl.net. Copies of the book will be available for checkout from the library. Frogtown Mountain Puppeteers: "The Legend of the Banana Kid"
Everyone is invited to a free performance of "The Legend of the Banana Kid" by Frogtown Mountain Puppeteers on Saturday, June 27 at 6:00 p.m. at the Blue Hill Public Library. "Little Chucky heads to the Wild West to outwit outlaws in this cowboy adventure! With a fistful of bananas, Chucky rides into town on his trusty goat for a showdown with Big Bad Bart and his gang of bandits." Frogtown Mountain Puppeteers is a small puppetry troupe based in Bar Harbor consisting of three siblings – Erik and Brian Torbeck and Robin Erlandsen. They write and create all the shows they perform and have received three Citations of Excellence from UNIMA-USA, the highest national award in puppetry. Thanks to the generosity of the Friends of the Library, admission for this puppet show is free. Reservations are not necessary. Meet Dash the Therapy Dog!
Kids of all ages are invited to come to the Blue Hill Library to meet Dash the certified therapy dog on Saturday, June 27 at 10:30 a.m.! Dash will be in the Larchwood Children's Room available for kids to meet, snuggle with, and read stories to if they so choose. Dash is a certified therapy dog and he loves to meet kids. Jyl Hershman-Ross (Dash’s handler) is a Level 3 Tellington TTouch Companion Animal Practitioner. She is a Behavior Consultant working with challenging, fearful, disabled, and shy dogs and an experienced Certified Professional Dog Trainer. Poets in Port: Donna Smith
Stonington Public Library, in conjunction with the Northport Arts Coalition in Northport, N.Y., welcomes Maine poet Donna Smith for an evening reading on Friday, June 26, from 6–7:30 p.m. Donna—whose love of poetry began with bedtime readings of Robert Louis Stevenson—has spent years writing and teaching poetry in elementary schools, publishing in children’s anthologies and online, and releasing several books, including Poems with Obscure Words from A to Z, It’s All About the Little Things, and It’s in Our Nature. She will share selections from her work, along with some of her watercolors, photographs, and drawings; Donna writes, paints, and plays ukulele on the Maine coast, where she lives with her two dogs and a cat. Author Event: Caroline Bicks, 'Monsters in the Archives: My Year of Fear with Stephen King'
The Blue Hill Public Library and Blue Hill Books will present an author event with Shakespeare scholar and Stephen E. King Chair in Literature at UMaine, Caroline Bicks, for her new book Monsters in the Archives: My Year of Fear with Stephen King on Thursday, June 25 at 7:00 p.m. at the library. Monsters in the Archives is a fascinating, first-of-its-kind exploration of Stephen King and his most iconic early books, based on groundbreaking research and interviews with King—all conducted by the first scholar to be given extended access to his private archives. Part literary master class, part biography, part memoir and investigation into our deepest anxieties, Monsters in the Archives—authorized by Stephen King himself and informed by interviews Bicks had with him—is unlike anything ever published about the master of horror. Joyful Hymn Sing at Rockbound Chapel
Singing hymns can be a shared and meaningful experience, even with people you don't know well. The act of singing together can create a sense of connection and mutual support. We’re glad to list community-focused events on the calendar at no cost. Good fits include:

One-time classes and workshops
Public talks and forums
Nonprofit fundraisers
Performances, festivals, and other open-to-the-public gatherings
To keep the calendar useful and readable, we don’t post regularly recurring events (for example, an ongoing fitness class or month-long shows), but we do welcome special sessions, series kickoffs, and standalone workshops.
If you’d like extra visibility we also offer a wide selection of advertising options starting at $25/week.
