Who we are
Welcome to The Rising Tide, a nonprofit newsroom for the Blue Hill Peninsula and Deer Isle–Stonington. We are a 501(c)(3) organization, and every story we publish is free to read, no paywalls, no subscription fees.
The Rising Tide is an all-digital venture, with a website and social media accounts. Our team publishes local reporting and shares updates through our Wednesday newsletter (it’s free to sign up, just like all of our content) and throughout the week on Facebook and Instagram.
The Rising Tide is a community of local journalists and contributors who care deeply about this place. We aim to deliver fair, independent news while making space for a range of voices in opinions and community stories that reflect the full character of our towns. That doesn’t mean we won’t tell the hard stories or report the news. We will.
If you have comments, news tips or story ideas, email us at info@risingtide.media.
How we’re funded
Because we’re a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, our work is sustained by community support: reader donations, grants, and local advertising. That mix allows us to keep our coverage free to everyone while paying reporters, editing stories, maintaining the site, and adding new features.
If you own or help run a local business, organization, or event, advertising with The Rising Tide is one way to reach thousands of neighbors and visitors while supporting independent local news. We offer flexible options so you can choose what fits your goals and budget. To learn more about advertising, visit our Advertising page or contact Bethany Violette at bviolette@risingtide.media.
Support free local news
The Rising Tide exists so people on the Blue Hill Peninsula and Deer Isle–Stonington can see their own communities reflected in the news for free. Gifts of any size help us keep that promise and strengthen coverage for the long term.
If our reporting has helped you stay informed, find resources, or feel more connected to this part of Maine, please consider making a tax‑deductible donation today.
