Captain Garret Aldrich will take passengers on a memorable evening tour of Stonington Harbor for all in the family to enjoy. Bask in a glorious sunset while giving back to a public resource—Stonington Public Library—an organization that opens its doors to everyone. There will be no food or beverages served on the family sunset cruise. Participants are welcome to bring along light bites and beverages to enjoy during the cruise.

The Stonington Lobster Boat Race has been an eventful summer event for 40+ years along the Maine Coast. We are a part of 10+ races that participate every year, gather with local fishermen to race and come together to support, honor and remember the lives of lost fishermen. Our race will be held this year on July 12, 2026, consisting of 30+ races with all different boat classifications and age groups. The day isn’t just about sea lovers but land lovers as well as vendors, food trucks and activities for all to enjoy. It is a fun day for all to come and enjoy during the busy summer.

Steve Hindy will present from his book based on the life of his grandfather, The Ali Hindy Story: A Muslim Immigrant in 20th Century America, published in 2025. This is the story of a 12-year-old Syrian Muslim boy who left his troubled homeland in 1894 with two other boys and traveled to Europe and then America in search of two goals: to marry and start a business.

Celebrate the Fourth of July and support the Island Community Center during the annual Stonington 6 road race. The Stonington 6 departs from the Community Center parking lot on the morning of July 4th. Participants will run/walk/stroll through a 10-kilometer (6.2-mile) course. Ret Talbot will present from his book Chasing Shadows, a collaborative project with shark biologist Greg Skomal that covers the return of the white shark to the western North Atlantic. Ret Talbot is an award-winning journalist with over two decades of experience covering stories from some of the more remote corners of the globe. A collaboration between a scientist and a science writer, Chasing Shadows is the remarkable story of the resurgence of the white shark population in the western North Atlantic told largely through the eyes of the shark biologist who found himself in the middle of it.

Stonington Public Library, in conjunction with the Northport Arts Coalition in Northport, N.Y., welcomes Maine poet Donna Smith for an evening reading on Friday, June 26, from 6–7:30 p.m. Donna—whose love of poetry began with bedtime readings of Robert Louis Stevenson—has spent years writing and teaching poetry in elementary schools, publishing in children’s anthologies and online, and releasing several books, including Poems with Obscure Words from A to Z, It’s All About the Little Things, and It’s in Our Nature. She will share selections from her work, along with some of her watercolors, photographs, and drawings; Donna writes, paints, and plays ukulele on the Maine coast, where she lives with her two dogs and a cat. Project Launch has teamed up with Photovoice Worldwide to to offer an exciting new documentary photography workshop for high school students. Using photography, research and narrative, students dug in to the question "What makes our community special and what challenges does it face?" Time was spent in work sessions and in the field doing research, capturing images and crafting stories. The result is an impressive array of images and storytelling that gives voice to their experiences.

Join Eric Beachy for an intro to metalwork! In this 6-session course you'll learn the basics of blacksmithing and forge your own marvelous creations. From useful hooks to zany sculptures; whatever takes your fancy. Forge time and tools included, large materials for grander projects are at students' discretion. The shop may have scrap metal on hand, but you can also up-cycle your own. This class is for ages 16 and up, or by permission of the director.
