Bagaduce Music to host Palaver Strings for benefit concert
Grammy-nominated band to perform at David's Folly Farm on July 29

BROOKSVILLE—Bagaduce Music will host a premiere fundraiser of the year on July 29, with an intimate acoustic concert by grammy-nominated Palaver Strings at David's Folly Farm in Brooksville. According to a press release, the evening will “celebrate both the beauty of live chamber music and Bagaduce Music's mission of making music accessible to all along Maine's coastline.”
Bagaduce Music is a nonprofit organization working in communities “from Blue Hill to Belfast, Freeport to Steuben.” They offer classes, ensembles, concerts, dances, and musical experiences in folk, bluegrass, jazz, community singing, and more. Bagaduce Music provides tuition assistance to participants and welcomes students of all ages and abilities.
Palaver Strings is a musician-led string ensemble and nonprofit organization based in Portland, Maine, dedicated to strengthening and inspiring community through music, the release said. The group’s members are “guided by a passion for engaging new audiences, addressing social justice issues, and amplifying underrepresented voices,” the release said. Palaver's musicians work in a cooperative model and “share artistic and administrative leadership.” The release said that the ensemble presents a full season of live concerts and serves hundreds of students each year at the Palaver Music Center in Portland.
The evening's program on July 29, called Serenades, is a musical “call for a new and brighter world,” the release said. The performance will span genres, eras, and styles, the program features works by Carlos Simon, Maurice Ravel, Laurie Anderson, J.S. Bach, Josef Suk, and Glenn Miller.

Bagaduce expanded this year’s fundraiser to David's Folly Farm, a larger space than they have used in the past. The event “is designed to encourage mingling and movement,” the release said. Doors open at 5:00 PM and for an “elegant reception” featuring artisanal charcuterie, local oysters, Tinder Hearth wood-fired pizzas and salads, and an assortment of wines. The concert will begin at 7:00 p.m.

The deadline to order tickets, which include food, is July 6. Concert-only tickets will remain available until sold out. All proceeds support Bagaduce Music education and community programs throughout Maine.
