GSA & FarmDrop World Food Day Celebration

  • George Stevens Academy 23 Union Street Blue Hill, ME, 04614 United States (map)

George Stevens Academy and FarmDrop will co-host a World Food Day celebration in GSA’s new high school cafeteria. The free public event will bring together local food producers, community organizations, and residents to celebrate and strengthen the region’s food systems.

The afternoon will feature a local food fair showcasing producers and food access nonprofit partners, followed by a complimentary community dinner of pizza, salad bar, and pie prepared by Chef Lu and GSA’s Culinary Arts program. The meal will include a special ingredient: pizza sauce made from donated tomatoes collected through “The Great Tomato Rescue” initiative running from September 15 through October 16, in partnership with Simmering Pot.

GSA Head of School Dan Welch and FarmDrop CEO Hannah Semler will speak about building resilient local food systems, with special international guests joining virtually to share global perspectives.

“World Food Day is an opportunity to celebrate the incredible network of farmers, nonprofits, and community members working to create a more sustainable and equitable food system right here in Blue Hill,” said Hannah Semler, FarmDrop CEO.

“GSA is proud to support local farms, and we are excited to dine with our community in our new cafeteria while highlighting our Culinary Arts Program led by the incredible Chef Lu!” Said Dan Welch, GSA’s Head of School.

World Food Day, coordinated annually by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, unites communities worldwide to take action for more sustainable and equitable food systems. 2025 is the eightieth anniversary of FAO, and this year’s theme of World Food Day is “collaboration.”

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit, contact Amy Strother at George Stevens at a.strother@georgestevens.org.
