The Blue Hill Concert Association’s 2026 season continues with a performance by the Telegraph Quartet, with Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 7 in F major and George Rochberg’s String Quartet No. 3. The concert begins at 3:00 pm on Sunday, February 15, at the Congregational Church in Blue Hill, 22 Tenney Hill.
The Telegraph Quartet was formed in 2013 and has played in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Kneisel Hall, and many others. They are currently the Quartet-in-Residence at the University of Michigan. They have been described by the San Francisco Chronicle as “powerfully adept... with a combination of brilliance and subtlety.”
Beethoven’s “Razumovsky” quartet will thrill the audience with its folk nuances, giving the work an expansive and pastoral atmosphere. In his quartet, George Rochberg mixes tonality and atonality, sometimes labeled as “neo-romanicism.” He attempts to achieve “the most potent and effective way to translate my musical energy into the clearest and most direct patterns of feeling and thought.”
During the intermission members of the audience can enjoy refreshments, view works by the featured artist, Michele Gower of Sedgwick, and meet with representatives from the featured cultural institution, the Surry Arts Barn.
Tickets are $35 and can be purchased at the door or at the website: www.bluehillconcertassociation.org. Admission is free for anyone under 21 and for music teachers. The next offering by the Blue Hill Concert Association takes place on March 8, featuring Boyd Meets Girl, a husband-wife duo playing guitar and cello.
