The Brooklin Climate Response Committee is hosting a discussion by Gail L. Carlson, Ph.D., a faculty member of Colby College's Environmental Studies program, on “how climate change impacts public health, what is at stake, and how to take action."
The discussion will be held in the Howard Room at the Blue Hill Public Library from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 3. The event is free and open to the public.
Carlson serves on the Human Dimensions Working Group of the Maine Climate Council's Scientific and Technical Subcommittee, is the author of “Human Health and the Climate Crisis,” and directs the Buck’s Lab at Colby College.
The Brooklin Climate Response Committee was established by the town of Brooklin in 2022, with a mission of helping “reduce and prepare for the ongoing effects of climate change,” according to the group’s website.
The group’s accomplishments include establishing a "Neighbor to Neighbor" energy-coaching program that has generated more than 60 home visits and follow-up reports provided to homeowners. The group has also worked with the Window Dressers weatherization program that provides insulation solutions to local homes. It has also held "drop-in" events at the local library for community members interested in home-energy efficiency and electric vehicles.
