BLUE HILL—George Stevens Academy announced that it is launching a parent- and community-led program called SOAR to strengthen ties between the school and peninsula communities.
The group, which describes itself in a school press release as “a community network supporting GSA,” is compiling a mailing list of those interested in participating or learning more. The group will hold its first meeting on Tuesday, January 13, beginning at 1 p.m. in the Howard Room at the Blue Hill Public Library.
SOAR also is planning a “parent social” for families of peninsula middle-schoolers to learn more about the private school and connect with other parents on Saturday, February 7. The event will be held at the Brooklin General Store from to 6-8 p.m.
“Additional opportunities and events will follow,” the school said in its announcement.
“SOAR’s mission is to champion students, support teachers, and foster school spirit by serving as a central hub for communication, involvement opportunities, and community-led support for GSA,” the release stated.
GSA head Dan Welch, who was unavailable to answer questions about the new program when contacted, has said in previous interviews that greater community engagement is vital to increasing student enrollment at the school.
Those interested in learning more about the program and joining SOAR’s email list can visit the school’s website at or can send their contact information gsasoar@gmail.com.
