BLUE HILL- The evening of Oct. 16 brought rainy skies, temperatures in the mid-40s, and a very wet and slippery field, where the GSA boys varsity soccer team faced off against Corinth's Central High School. Yet the inclement weather brought good fortune to GSA, who took the win 4-1.
The game started off with great passes, saves, defense (and offense) from both sides, but really got rolling after GSA’s Jack Carson scored the first goal with a penalty kick. As the cold weather built up, so did the energy of both the fans and the players. Energy ran high as players shoved, slipped, and stole the ball to try and fight for a goal, and in an awkward scramble of players, Central High School even scored a goal on themselves.
After this, things just got more exciting. Central High upped their ante on defense, while GSA upped their offense, resulting in faster running, a lot more slipping on the already soaked field, and another goal from Jack Carson.
More than once did the game have to be paused for an injury, either due to being trampled, slipping, or taking a ball to the face. Later on, there was a cluster by the goal that resulted in another own goal by Central High School. This all took place in the very eventful first half. The second half brought one goal for Central High School, which happened on a penalty kick.
The cold and rainy game did not stop GSA from taking the win against Central High School.
