ORLAND—The Maine Department of Transportation is soliciting feedback from the public about the proposed installation of a traffic signal on Rte. 1 in Orland at the School House Road and Upper Falls Road intersection.

According to the DOT website, the proposed project “consists of replacing the existing flashing beacons with a fully-actuated traffic signal, and installing new luminaires on new poles.” Construction is set to begin in spring 2027, and no detours or road closures are anticipated at this time, the DOT said.

Since 2005, the DOT has recorded 13 crashes at the site, half of which resulted in injuries.

In lieu of an in-person public meeting to solicit feedback, a project presentation is available online through the DOT’s “on-demand” public meeting platform, where projects from across the state can be reviewed.

Community members have until Feb. 4 to provide feedback on the project.

Installation of the new stoplight is expected in the spring of 2027.
