In September, I Remember…

The Blue Hill Fair in 2025

By Sue Shaw

Sheep dog trials and hot fried dough,

4-H calves and the fine art show,

Italian sausage, curly fries,

The ring-toss game with a stuffed bear prize!

Cotton candy, onions frying,

Displays the Granges make…all trying

To be the best and win the blue,

The competition’s fierce, it’s true!

Draft horse pulling…hatchet throwing,

Skillet toss and veggie growing—

Canning jars—all perfect…bright…

Glow on tables under light.

Music from the Ferris Wheel

Rides that always make you feel

Just a little sick and queasy---

Reminding you to take it easy!

Dusty aisles and bright hot sun

That cools when day is almost done.

The grandstand fills—the hometown crowd

Cheers fireworks that are bright and loud!

And though I’m somewhere else today

My mind’s eye sees—though far away…

These images that take me there…

And I’m back home at the Blue Hill Fair!
