POEM: Reflections on the nature—and nostalgia—of change

April 28, 2026

There’s been a lot of changes

In the Bucksport I have known

Improvements and a face-lift

As the seeds of progress sown.

And some are quite delightful,

Like the walkway on the shore;

A stroll along that setting

Is a many-ailment cure

Revitalize and update–

I suppose its way past due,

And who should not be happy

When the old town is made new!

But still my heart’s in anguish

As familiar places fall,

And I wonder in the future

Will I know my friend at all.

—Linda Swift was a poet and lifelong resident of Bucksport. She passed away on March 1, 2026, and her family is sharing her poems in her honor.
