March Snow
Last night it snowed—they said it would...
We got 5 inches—they said we could!
The yard and field had been quite bare,
But this morning, everywhere
It was all covered and deeply white...
But after all...it snowed all night!
Early birds found feeders overflowing
'Cause last night's forecast left us knowing
That spring was taking a little break
And winter's grip, make no mistake,
Still holds us tightly in its grasp.
But the temps are rising...snow won't last!
It's just a quirk of Maine-type weather
And whether they wear fur or feather
Or Carhartt jacket, all creatures know
How to handle Maine's March snow...
How to deal with this hand we're dealt...
We'll all just wait, and watch it melt!
