POEM: When geese should fly

October days just look like they are meant for southward flights

It looks like a day when geese should fly

Across a low October sky!

When their distant cries would merge and blend

With the roar and whistle of the wind!

It seems as though each glance should find

A ragged “V”…and in my mind

The scene’s envisioned just as clear

As it would be if they were here!

It just seems like the sort of day

When geese should beat above the bay…

And as I watch…

…my minds eye sees…

The high and distant, chatting “V”s!
