For watercolor artist Jaeohk Keenan, painting heals the homesickness she has for her native Korea, which she left 45 years ago for graduate school. Keenan will show her watercolor paintings in the Blue Hill Public Library’s Britton Gallery and Howard Room during the month of September, in a show, “Light, Color, and Nature: Exploring New England.” Most of the paintings are of scenery in Maine. The public is invited to an opening on Friday, September 19, 4:00 to 6:00 p.m at the Blue Hill Public Library. For more information, contact the library at 374-5515.
Keenan says she is self-taught, and like photographers, prefers early morning and late afternoon light. These were convenient times to fit into her school and work schedules, but when time is short, she finishes her paintings in the studio after making careful notes about the lighting and mixing of pigments.
