You are invited to a talk about my new book, “The Ali Hindy Story: A Muslim Immigrant in 20th Century America,” at the Friend Library in Brooklin November 5 at 5 pm.
My grandfather Ali Hindy left his homeland in Syria for Europe and America in 1894 at age 12 with two other boys. He ended up in southern West Virginia owning a general store, movie theater and bathhouse for coal miners.
It’s a classic American immigrant success story, and a story of the sacrifices made to become an American.
