Blue Hill Pride parade draws 80 to downtown Blue Hill

BLUE HILL—Peninsula Pride held its annual festival and parade in Blue Hill on June 20.
More than 80 people marched in the parade through downtown Blue Hill, waving signs and Pride flags. A Blue Hill volunteer fire department truck led the parade while fire chief John Chapman brought up the rear, “ensuring everyone had a safe afternoon,” according to organizers.
State Sen. Nicole Growoski greeted the crowd, saying she will continue to work to ensure all have equal rights.

At the festival, the Misty Mountain singers performed while attendees enjoyed donated hot dogs and other food items. The event also featured a selection of paintings on display from Robert Shetterly’s “Americans Who Tell the Truth” collection, which included portraits of LGBTQ+ activists Nikki Giovanni, Cecil Williams, Pauli Murray, Richard Blanco, Alicia Garza, and Nicole and Jonas Maines, organizers said.
Rev. Douglas Beck, rector of the St. Francis by the Sea Episcopal Church of Blue Hill, offered an interfaith service earlier in the day.
Peninsula Pride is a group of volunteers based on the peninsula committed to “spreading love and acceptance,” creating opportunities for the LGBTQ+ community to come together in a safe space and celebrate, and providing resources to individuals with LGBTQ+ questions, according to their website.
