THE U-TURN: Parking lot art

MARKING TIME: Elizabeth McGaha, a senior at George Stevens Academy, paints her parking spot as part of a fundraiser for the class. For $20, seniors are allowed to reserve and decorate a specific spot. McGaha was in the early stages of her art on Nov. 14, drawing calendars for each month of her high school senior year. Each day would then be crossed off throughout the year, she said, although she admitted she hadn’t realized how tedious making each month’s calendar would be. A few days later, she had changed artistic direction and painted colorful flowers over the spot witht he word “Senior”. Congrats to McGaha and all seniors for their personalized parking spaces.

WISH LIST: Deer Isle-Stonington High School recently held a career day for students. Among the activities, students collaborated on a poster that asked “What do you want for the island?” The answers were varied: a dentist, a veterinarian, housing, an ice cream shop, and Dunkin Donuts made it onto the list. Someone also wrote, “Nice people.” Another wrote, “Respectful people.” Still another: “Less tourists.” The poster is displayed at the Stonington Town Hall.
