Volunteers assist adaptive paddlers to Little Camp Island

STONINGTON— Volunteers from three different organizations worked with Osprey’s Echo Sea Kayaking on Big Pond Road in Stonington to assist six adaptive paddlers to Little Camp Island on Aug. 30 via kayaks. 

The volunteers were from Island Heritage Trust, Maine Coast Heritage Trust, and the Adaptive Outdoor Education Center. 

One volunteer from the Island Heritage Trust, Alex Drenga, transported wheelchairs and other necessary equipment to Little Camp Island. Trevor Herrick from Maine Coast Heritage Trust assisted with the landing and climbing of the crew to the top of the island, revealing a 360-degree view of the Merchant Row archipelago. 

In a press release, lead guide and founder of Osprey’s Echo Sea Kayaking, Will Steinharter, said, “It was an unforgettable experience for all of us.”
