CASTINE—Families in Brooksville, Castine and Penobscot may be eligible for financial assistance to help their children participate in a series of youth sea kayaking programs being offered this summer through local outdoor education instructor Karen Francoeur.
Francoeur, owner of Castine Kayak Adventures, announced that funding from the Hatch Youth Fund will again be available on a first-come, first-served basis for eligible participants from the three towns. Children from other communities are also welcome to enroll, and additional funding opportunities may be available, according to Francoeur.
The summer lineup includes four programs designed for a range of ages and experience levels:
Frank Kneisel Youth Kayaking: (8-18 years old) on June 18-19
Junior Maine Sea Kayak Guide Program: (15-18 years old) on June 20-24
Kayak Kids Bioluminescent Paddle: (10 years old and up) on July 13
Kids in Kayaks End of Summer Camp: (8-18 years old) on Aug 24-28
Francoer, a Master Maine Guide specializing in recreation and sea kayaking, said families interested in financial assistance are encouraged to inquire about available funding when registering.
Organizers said spots are limited and urged families to register early to secure a place in the programs and access available scholarship funds.
Additional information and registration details are available through the program's website.
