LETTER: In praise of local journalism

To the Editor:

I’m writing to thank the staff of The Rising Tide for bringing professional journalism to the Peninsula, Deer Isle and Stonington and the entire Western Hancock County region.

For years I have felt the need for a local news source that would provide coverage of the area we all cherish as our home and am appreciative that you have created that. Western Hancock County deserves a quality local source of news and events for our region. We have always counted on and supported one another in the towns of our area in many ways such as mutual aid through our first responders, economic development, education and commerce and other community resources like youth sports and library services. Now we can look to your journalism as another means of being better connected and building community.

Thank you for your dedication and hard work in providing forward-looking and quality journalism to all of us.
