LETTER: Collins should hold public meetings on hospitals, immigration

March 9, 2026

I'm seeing television ads for and against the candidacy of Sen. Susan Collins, a Republican. The anti-ads blame her for the anti-immigrant sweeps of the Trump Administration and suggest we voters "tell her" that we oppose her support for the crackdown.

The pro-ads tell us that Sen. Collins has saved our local hospitals (my local clinic just closed) and suggest we call her to thank her for this.

These ads leave me wondering why there is no opportunity for Maine voters to meet with Sen. Collins and personally deliver their views. When was the last time Sen. Collins held a public meeting to hear from her constituents? Has she ever had such a meeting?
