A benefit dinner for a mother and her young son who lost their home in fire over the holidays will be held  on Jan. 31.

A spaghetti dinner and raffle will be held on Saturday, Jan. 31 at the Brooksville Community Center. The dinner starts at 5 pm. Organizers say the event will be an “evening of food, community, and compassion.”

Mary Dyer and her young son, Maverick, lost their Deer Isle home and all of their possessions in a fire between Christmas and New Year’s.

Six area fire departments responded to the blaze, which started in a wood-framed garage and then spread to the house, according to fire officials.

Since then the community has shown an outpouring of support for the family, including a GoFundMe campaign that has raised more than $12,000.

Tickets for the dinner are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12.

“Every ticket purchased helps support Mary and Mav as they rebuild,” a press release said. “Come share a meal, show your love, and support a family in need. All proceeds will go directly to Mary Dyer and Maverick.”

For more information or to donate items to the raffle, please call or text 207-460-5884.
