A new food pantry has opened in Penobscot, the first of its kind for the small town.

Penobscot Provisions is located on the side of the old fire house at the intersection of Bridges Point Road and Southern Bay Road.

The pantry is located on the side of the  building farthest from the road, allowing people to discreetly pull in behind the building. The area is lighted and the pantry has an internal heater, allowing it to safely store canned and non-perishable food.

The pantry was built by Penobscot resident Ben Gifford, who owns the old fire station building. Viking Lumber donated most of the materials for its construction..

The pantry was created by Penobscot residents Heather Emanuelson and Sloan Butler.

“Growing up, even as kids in completely different states, we both know what that feels like to be the hungry kid,” said Emanuelson, who grew up in Chicago.

To donate food or to learn more about the pantry, find Penobscot Provisions on Facebook or contact Emanuelson by email at penobscotprovisions@gmail.com.
