BLUE HILL — The George Stevens Academy Girls Varsity Volleyball team remains undefeated at 11-0 following a decisive 3-0 victory (25-22, 25-13, 25-20) over the fourth-seeded Woodland Dragons on Tuesday, Oct. 6.

The GSA gymnasium was filled with palpable energy as family, fans, and students gathered to cheer on the Eagles, who demonstrated their stamina and poise against a tough Woodland squad.

“Stay aggressive,” coach Jim Beard reminded his team during key moments to keep their momentum going whenever Woodland threatened to rally.

According to the Maine Principal's Association, the Eagles currently sit at the top of Class D with the highest Heal Points in the state, standing as Maine's sole remaining undefeated high school volleyball team.

“They are working really hard. A lot of them play travel volleyball in the offseason, which helps a lot,” Eric Hutchins said, father of senior, Layla Hutchins. “The seniors have been together for a long time, so it's nice to see them coming together. We are extremely proud.”

Senior Acadia Simmons reflected on the dedication and strong bond their group has built over the past four years.

“We also all work on our game in the offseason, whether it's club or whether it's just getting in the gym and playing together,” Simmons said. “We're always playing with each other throughout the year, so I think that's a big key to our performance.”

With just three games remaining in the regular season, the Eagles are keeping their focus sharp for the postseason.

“The nerves are coming, but we know that we just have to play our game,” Taylor Grego, a senior at GSA said.

Backed by undefeated momentum, state-leading statistics, and a passionate home crowd, the Eagles are well-positioned for a strong postseason run.

Playoffs begin Oct. 22.

10/13: Jonesport-Beals (Home)
