Patients may contact Dr Gillins at his office (207) 374-5398 to get their dental records.

BLUE HILL – Blue Hill’s only dental practice, Blue Hill Peninsula Dental, is closing permanently, the practice announced in letters sent to patients this week. Dec. 17 will be the last day of operations. Until then, only patients with previous appointments and emergency patients will be treated, according to the letter.

Dr. Mike Gillins, owner of the practice, said in the letter, “Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control, we have no choice but to close our doors.”

The practice’s website and Facebook page have been shut down.

There has been a flurry of activity on social media by local residents sharing the news, as well as asking others for recommendations and information on other dentists in the area.

Gillins is the third dentist to close his practice and/or move out of Blue Hill in the last 10 years. Dr. Juan Aponte of Blue Hill Family & Cosmetic Dentistry closed shop and moved to Crossville, Tennessee, in 2021. Dr. Travis Castleberry practiced in Blue Hill until 2016, when he then relocated to Ellsworth.

The letter from Gillins said patients may contact his office at (207) 374-5398 to get their dental records, or may request their records in writing at 120 South Street, Blue Hill. After the office closes, patients can contact Gillins at 418 Pleasant Street, Blue Hill, according to the letter.

The Rising Tide has tried to reach Gillins for comment, but has not yet received a response.
