You can share up to three media items in total—whether that’s several images, or a mix of photos and a short tribute video—and we’ll place them within the obituary so readers can see faces and moments alongside the text.​

The outline below shows the kinds of details you might include in your own obituary, from basic facts and family names to memories, service information, and suggestions for memorial gifts. When you’re ready to submit, you can use this structure as a guide and upload your words and images through our obituary form.

What to include in your obituary

• Opening sentence
  Full name, age, town of residence, and date of death.

• Life story
  A few sentences about where they were born and raised, education, work or career, and any military or community service.

• Family
  Names and relationships of close family members you wish to mention (for example: spouse or partner, children, parents, siblings, grandchildren).

• Interests and personality
  Hobbies, passions, and a brief sense of what they were known and loved for.

• Survivors and predeceased
  A short list of surviving close family members and, if you wish, those who died before them.

• Service details
  Dates, times, and locations for visiting hours, funeral or memorial services, receptions, and burial, or a note if services are private.

• Memorial gifts (optional)
  Information about donations in lieu of flowers or any causes that were meaningful to them.
