‘Rising Tide’
By Sue Shaw
Every day the rising tide celebrates the shore.
Gives rise to seaweed forests there--sustains…it is the core…
Of life upon Maine’s rocky beaches…
It floods into the cracks and breaches…
Brings nutrients to all it reaches…
Then it retreats once more.
Tide creeps across the ledges and
Where shorebirds run on dampened sand…
Incoming tide lifts lobster floats
And all the small moored coastal boats
As water deepens and it coats
Things at the edge of land!
While granite rocks seem to subside,
I must admit—I will confide—
That from a high-tide point of view
Some things seem brighter…yes, they do!
Things seem more tidy, clean and true…
Washed clean by the rising tide!
