BLUE HILL - Blue Hill Library will host a student art show this month to feature works in various media from students across the peninsula.
The library has long showcased young artists from Blue Hill and neighboring communities in an annual spring exhibition that, according to a press release, remains a favorite among patrons and visitors.
Each year, students and homeschoolers are invited to share their artwork “with the goal of showcasing the talent and creativity of local young people,” according to the release. The exhibition features work by artists from pre-K through 12th grade, spanning watercolor, pen and ink, ceramics, sculpture, photography, collage, and textile art.
Teen Services Librarian Kendall Chapman described the show in the release as “a riot of color, covering nearly every surface in the library and a delight to behold,” adding, “I hope everyone who can spare a few minutes will come see it.”
High schoolers who participated in the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts Mentor Program, which gives students the opportunity to work with professional artists and makers, will also have works on display.
Art teacher Melissa Rioux, who has taught at George Stevens Academy since 2021, has her students participate each spring.
“I love seeing the creativity of students across the peninsula—this event helps me feel connected to the broader community,” she said.
A reception for the April Student Art Show will be held at the library on Friday, April 3, from 4-6 pm, and will feature a special performance from the Adams School band. The show will also be available for viewing during regular library hours starting April 1.
The Rising Tide welcomes poems and other artistic endeavors from our community, and showcases them here in our “Create” section. If you have something you’d like to submit—a poem, a picture of a painting, a photograph, a music recording—send it to info@risingtide.media. We’d love to publish it and give you an audience for your creativity.
