Pirate song for a wooden boat regatta

Singer/songwriter Cheryl Jeanette to kick off Eggemoggin Reach Regatta weekend with Brooklin library concert

The Eggemoggin Reach Regatta is coming up on Aug. 1. Billed as “the largest wooden boat regatta in the world,” attendees can start to get into the seafaring mood with a concert by singer/songwriter Cheryl Jeanette at Friend Memorial Library in Brooklin on July 31.

Jeanette’s new single “Pirate Sails” was originally written as a fairytale in her journal while sailing around the Porcupine Islands in Frenchman Bay aboard the schooner Margaret Todd. It then evolved into a song while Jeanette was visiting Brooklin Boat Yard. Released on May 4, the song made its debut on May 7 at the Towne Crier Cafe in Beacon, New York.

“All of my songs have a great story,” Jeanette told The Rising Tide.

Jeanette says her July 31 concert, which starts at 3 p.m., will bring awareness to the museum’s new maritime research wing that is currently under construction, as well as to the United Nations’ High Seas Treaty on the conservation and sustainable use of the planet’s open oceans.

Jeanette divides her time between Brooklin and New Haven, Connecticut. She was a featured poet at the Maine State House in April in the Hall of Flags as a notable poet and writer from Maine. For more of her music, visit her website.
