POEM: Sounds of the season are all around us

April 20, 2026

By Sue Shaw

Spring Sounds

In early April

Where it’s wet

You’ll hear a sound

You won’t forget…

A mighty sound…

Comes from the bog…

From a very tiny,

Vocal frog!

Spring peepers sing,

A chorus huge…

That sounds at dusk.

A frog deluge!

While the woodcock ‘peents’,

The peepers sing…

Proclaiming April

And a Maine-style spring!
