The Truth About Rodenticides: Panel Presentation & Community Discussion
Rodenticides are highly toxic poisons used to kill rodents and have devastating impacts on wildlife. Instead of solving the problem, many of these poisons are killing or sickening wildlife including rodents’ natural predators (raptors, owls, foxes, etc), as well as pets as these toxins move through the food web. Homeowners may not even know that their own pest management systems use rodenticides and are contributing to non-targeted wildlife deaths.Integrated Pest Management strategies will be presented along with displays of rodenticide-free rodent control options. Co-sponsored by The Belfast Bay Watershed Coalition & the Rodenticide-Free Maine Coalition.
Cilla Bonnie and her Band at The Underground Lounge
The Underground Lounge, located at 17 Court Street in Belfast, will welcome bassist, singer, and songwriter Cilla Bonnie and her band on Saturday, October 24. Doors open at 6:30pm, and the music starts at 7:00pm.
The October 24 performance at the Underground Lounge offers audiences the chance to experience the band in an intimate setting: close to the music and musicians for a genuine exchange. The Underground Lounge is a DIY, volunteer-led music series dedicated to bringing quality original performances to Belfast through the off season. Admission is 10-20 (cash only) at the door. Dar Williams Returns to Maine
The acclaimed songwriter Dar Williams is never content simply to sing. Her visit to Midcoast and DownEast Maine later this month will center on a July 18 evening performance at the 877-seat 1932 Criterion Theatre in Bar Harbor. But Williams is also holding two of the “Town Talks” she’s been hosting across the country since she wrote a book about lessons in community-building gleaned in hundreds of towns she’s visited as a touring musician since the 1990s.
On Friday July 17th at 7 p.m., at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Belfast, Williams will trade songs and stories with a selection of Maine songleaders of known for their focus on music as a mending and nurturing presence in our towns: Molly Gawler, Matthew Hawkins, Doug Kolmar and Mehuman. Matt Murphy, the general manager of WERU Community Radio, will facilitate.
