The Brooklin Garden Club is offering grants for groups and individuals interested in improving their community’s outdoor environment or developing new plans to educate area residents about conservation, ecology, gardening or agriculture, according to a press release.
Local organizations on the Blue Hill Peninsula and Deer Isle are eligible, including community improvement groups, schools, libraries and other institutions and individuals.
Grants of up to $1,500 are available for projects involving gardening, landscaping, agriculture, forestry, conservation and ecology which are accessible to local residents. Applications will be judged based on efforts to promote public education or to develop or improve outdoor areas open to the public. Special consideration will be given to projects which involve children. Awards cannot be used for existing project maintenance or endowments.
In past years, grants have been awarded for projects such as planting an orchard, developing a composting and recycling program at a local day camp, buying greenhouse supplies at several area schools, and providing vegetable seedlings to a local food pantry, the group says.
To apply for funding, visit the club’s website and read the “Grants” section. For any questions, email Miffy Maffei at brooklingardenclubg@gmail.com. The deadline for submitting applications is March 15. Grant winners will be announced in June.
The Brooklin Garden Club is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that raises money through activities such as its popular “Art in Bloom” exhibition, a festival of art and flowers. Additional funds come from contributions, bequests and garden and house tours.
