BLUE HILL—The clocks have been turned back. The days are getting shorter. And cold weather is right around the corner.
That’s why, for the fourth year running, several local organizations will once again host the Healthy Hibernation Fair, a free event this weekend to help residents make it through the upcoming winter.
The annual event brings together organizations and businesses across the Blue Hill Peninsula “to share information and opportunities that support community members’ mental, emotional, and physical health throughout the winter months and beyond,” according to a press release from organizers.
The event will be held this Saturday, Nov. 7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Blue Hill YMCA. The event is the work of local organizations Healthy Peninsula, the Island Community Center, and the Blue Hill YMCA.
While the event will take place in the gym of the YMCA, the entire facility will be free and open to the public during the fair.
This year, vendors will again include the Turn Style Thrift Shop and their fashion show of selectively curated one-of-a-kind outfits. Variable Movement will be demonstrating and discussing weightlifting for women over 30 years old. The Downeast chapter of the Hearing Loss Association of America will be displaying different types of captioning or free voice-to-text applications.
While parents and caregivers explore available resources and demonstrations, they can send their children to Child Watch for some fun with free care provided by George Stevens Academy and Deer Isle-Stonington Community Service students.
The Brooksville Elementary School and the Penobscot Community School will be selling lunch items and baked goods sold to raise money for their eighth-grade class trips.
