DEER ISLE—Four new pickleball courts opened at the Island Country Club on July 11. The new courts were professionally resurfaced, painted and striped, a press release said, and are now open daily.

Court hours and open play

The new courts are open for play Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the release said. Pickleball courts may also be reserved for one- or two-hour blocks. Members play for free and guests accompanying a member pay a $5 per hour guest fee. Visitors can reserve a court for $25 per hour.

Two weekly open pickleball sessions are available to members and visitors, the release said. Open sessions are held on Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 2:00-5:00 p.m. The open sessions are drop-in, the release said, with no sign-up required. Members play for free and visitors pay $10.

Intro to pickleball sessions

The club's pickleball committee will run four Intro to Pickleball sessions on July 22, July 29, and August 5, from 2:00pm to 3:00pm., the release said. The intro sessions are “designed for beginners, including those who have never played.” Attendees will learn rules and scoring, review court positioning, and practice different types of shots. Space is limited and sign-up for the introductory classes is required.

On August 8, the club will also host ‘Let's Get Pickled!’ from 1:00-5:00 p.m., the release said. The event is a “fun community pickleball event.”
