THE U-TURN: Cribbage for a cause, a blue lobster, tidal communities

Phrases like "15-2" and "15-4" filled Marlintini's Grill this past weekend as over a dozen cribbage players competed in a fundraising tournament for the victims of the Robbins Lumber fire.
Sixteen community members participated in the event, raising $900. Ray Maki, of Sedgwick, won the tournament and took home a $100 gift card to the restaurant.
Dave Harriman, left, of Blue Hill organized the tournament. Harriman has played cribbage for years and knew there were many members of the community who would venture out to play for a good cause. Eric Ray, Captain of F/V What's Next caught this beautiful blue lobster off the coast of Stonington—on the north east side of Pell's Island—on July 20. The lobster sat in 40 feet of water and is the second blue lobster Ray has ever caught.

Downeast Audubon recently hosted a program on Little Deer Isle to explore the fascinating marine community that lives below the Deer Isle Bridge. Participants learned about the island’s dynamic intertidal ecosystem and “met” some of the many creatures that live there.
