THE U-TURN: Winter isn’t done with us yet

Historic house, artsy woodpile, and old rock wall under snow show us there is still beauty even when spring is slow to appear

Spring may officially be here, but winter seems to be the guest who never leaves, with a fresh round of snow on March 22. Still, local photographers see the beauty in the beauty of the season in their towns.

Even under overcast skies, the March 22 snowfall brought out the bright colors of the 1814 Parson Jonathan Fisher House at 44 Mines Road. Even at 212 years old, Fisher's house looks sharp, thanks to the work of the volunteers and contractors with the Fisher House organization. In 2025, the group began a major restoration project to restore and repair all the original windows in the 1814 section of the house, with work being done by Deer Isle craftsman Everett Oakes Fiske. Photo by Steele Hays.
