BLUE HILL — The entire Blue Hill Mountain Trail system will be temporarily closed on Friday, Oct. 2, to allow work crews to complete maintenance on the mountain's cell phone tower.
During the closure, heavy equipment will be transported to the summit via helicopter to commence upgrades.
“They’re replacing all U.S. Cellular stuff with T-Mobile stuff,” Blue Hill Selectman Ben Adams said.
Harlie Burke, administrative and development coordinator of Blue Hill Heritage Trust, said that the new upgraded equipment should improve service in the area.
The trust advises all hikers to stay off the trails for their safety as well as the safety of the work crews.
Following the initial helicopter transport, crews will use ATVs to haul additional equipment along the service trail throughout the following week. Visitors should exercise caution in the area while work is ongoing.
Signage will be posted at all trailheads. For the latest closure updates, visit the Blue Hill Heritage Trust website, view their Facebook page, or contact their office at (207) 374-5118.
