Maine Maritime Academy alumnus Shane Moeykens returns as chief of staff

CASTINE—Maine Maritime Academy has announced that alumnus Shane Moeykens will return to the academy as chief of staff on March 9, bringing decades of leadership experience in higher education, technology, and federally funded research, according to a press release.
Moeykens served most recently as the Director of the Maine Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research and the Director of Advanced Research Computing, Security, and Information Management at the University of Maine. At UMaine, he “provided strategic leadership for statewide research infrastructure, high-performance computing, and federal research competitiveness, supporting Maine’s growth in STEM innovation, workforce development, and interdisciplinary scholarship,” the press release said.
Prior to his work in higher education, Moeykens held senior leadership positions at Fluent Inc. and ANSYS, Inc., where he “led strategic partnerships, technology licensing and acquisition efforts, and business development programs supporting global growth,” the release said. He also served in engineering and technology management roles at The Trane Company in Wisconsin and r as a nuclear plant engineer at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in New York.
Moeykens holds a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Iowa State University, an M.B.A. in technology management from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, an M.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Maine, and a B.S. in marine systems engineering with a minor in nuclear engineering from Maine Maritime Academy.
