Nor’easter coming this weekend

Five-to-nine-foot waves predicted

A nor’easter is predicted to affect much of Maine’s coastline from 8 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27.

On Sept. 24, the National Weather Service released a coastal hazard message, warning of “Large breaking waves of 5 to 9 feet. Highest waves will impact the outermost islands,” specifically referring to coastal Hancock County. 

This high surf advisory warned individuals to stay off rocks along the shoreline exposed to ocean waves in the affected areas. People should also be aware of the likely risk of rip currents and beach erosion, according to the National Weather Service.

Wind gusts on Saturday are expected to peak around 36 miles per hour, the service said.
