DEER ISLE—A Deer Isle business owner has launched a new 24-hour shop selling sandwiches, whoopie pies, and complete dinners, and all on the honor system.
Theresa Gove, owner of There’s a Treat takeout restaurant has opened an adjacent new 24/7 shop she calls “TAT On the Go.” Gove said she was inspired by the need for the community to have access to food after regular store hours.
“Everything closes at like 7 or 8 and then has this open, so if a fisherman needs something to eat, it's right here,” Gove said. “Plow drivers are able to stop and get a coffee or snack during the night.”
The idea has been a dream of Gove’s for many years, she said. She said part of her inspiration came after hearing people complain that after local sporting events there were no grocery stores open.
“Now they don’t have to cook,” Gove said. “This will be an easy stop, costing $10 or $20. You can probably feed a family with little kids. It’s easy to pick up. Take it home, microwave it, or throw it in the oven.”

The shop, located on the Sunset Crossroad in Deer Isle, is on the honor system, and takes Venmo, cash or check at all hours. During the day, when Gove is there, she can also take credit cards.
TAT On the Go provides breakfast items like egg sandwiches, muffins, homemade hash and coffee. Lunch is sandwiches, wraps and chips. And for dinner, she provides take home meals with a different item every day.
Gove will be cooking up warm food to order during the day from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Monday through Friday, but will have items available all day. Dinner items will be available by the afternoon. Every day there will be a new special, she said.
“Fishermen, snow removal folks, or those early risers can stop by anytime for cold subs, meals, whoopie pies, brownies, muffins, chips, soda, water and coffee,” she said.
As the summer goes on, Gove will have more items for sale. But for now, “Whoopie pies are the best sellers,” she said.
