A screaming fox, distracted drivers and a crash in Castine
Arrest and incident reports are collected from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, the Bucksport Police Department, and other law enforcement agencies. Arrests are not convictions, and all suspects are innocent until proven guilty.

Blue Hill
On April 2, Sergeant Travis Frost conducted a well-being check on an elderly hitchhiker.
The Blue Hill Transfer Station called in a trespass complaint for a female on the property on April 2. Deputy Mariza Gionfriddo responded. He spoke with all involved parties and, ultimately, no notice was issued.
Dylan Brown, 33, of Deer Isle was arrested for Operating Under the Influence, Driving to Endanger, and Violation of Condition of Release on April 6. He was transported to the Hancock County Jail.
Bucksport
Grace Pelkey, 19, of Chester, was traveling southbound on Mast HIll Road when her vehicle struck a deer on March 29. No injuries were reported but her car was damaged
On March 30, Ann Conte, 55, of Swans Island, was cited for using her cell phone while driving on Rt. 1.
George Stanley, 75, or Orland was backing out of a parking space at 124 Rt. 1 when he hit a car belonging to Jennifer Smith, of Blue Hill, on March 31. Smith’s car was parked legally in a parking space behind Stanley. Her car was unoccupied at the time of the incident but it sustained cosmetic damage. No injuries were reported.
Tyler Piebes, 40, of Winterport received a citation for using a cell phone while driving on April 1.
On April 1, Deirdre Zurek, 56, of Orland was cited for using a cell phone while driving.
Officer Matt Schmidt completed the registration of a male sex offender on April 1.
After a resident reported hearing nearby screaming on April 1, Officer Jesse Dow discovered that the noise was coming from a fox.
On April 2, a local business reported an unwanted person in their store.
Officer Trevor Luna found large bags in the roadway on April 2.
Timothy Estes, 28 of Bucksport, was arrested for refusing to submit to arrest or detention on April 2.
An individual reported hearing shots fired on April 2. Officer Robert Findlay determined the sound came from a work site.
Jennifer Saunders, 52, of Bucksport, was traveling north on Millvale Road on April 3 when her vehicle struck a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported but Saunders’ car was towed from the scene.
On April 3, Olman Blandon, 25, of Eddington, was summoned for operating without a license.
Phoebe Colbeth, 22, of Bangor, received a citation on April 4 for failing to produce evidence of insurance.
Officer Robert Findlay assisted a male found standing in the middle of the roadway on April 4.
On April 4, Peter McCaffrey failed to produce evidence of insurance and received a citation.
Peter McCaffrey, 54 of Stockton Springs, was arrested on Rt. 46 for operating after habitual offender revocation and VCR on April 4.
Castine
Joseph Spinazola, 28, of Castine, was arrested for Driving to Endanger after crashing his car in Castine on April 5. He was transported to the Maine Coast Memorial Hospital and then to the Hancock County Jail without incident where he was turned over to the jail staff.
Brooklin
Deputy Devin Grindle assisted the Maine Game Warden Service in responding to an ATV crash in Brooklin. The female operator was transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Deer Isle
Deputy Devin Grindle responded to a fraud complaint in Deer Isle on March 30. The incident is currently under investigation.
Stonington
Deputy Anthony Jones responded to a residence for the attended death of an 88-year-old male resident on April 4. The death is suspected to have been of natural causes and was not considered suspicious.
