Big Jim Celebration at Penobscot Marine Museum

The Penobscot Marine Museum will host a free public celebration welcoming the iconic Big Jim to the museum’s Route 1 campus in Searsport on Saturday, June 13 at 2 p.m. The Big Jim Celebration will feature live music from The Hot Suppers and BookHead SweetTooth, along with free admission to the museum, including the featured exhibit, Sardineland. The public is invited to enjoy an afternoon of music, history, and community as the museum celebrates one of Maine’s most recognizable roadside figures.

Monthly Sea Chantey Singalong

Sing along or listen as PMM staff and volunteers lead an afternoon of sea chanteys and sailors’ songs. If you have a chantey to share, you are welcome to lead one. There will also be information about how these songs were used as work songs. Attend once or come regularly. All ages are welcome, and no experience is needed.

Sardineland Opening @ Penobscot Marine Museum

Penobscot Marine Museum reopens for the 2026 season on May 22 with Sardineland, an exhibit exploring Maine’s sardine industry and its impact on coastal communities, plus a special appearance by “Big Jim,” a restored 40-foot fisherman statue on campus for the summer. Exhibits are open May 22–October 10, Tuesday–Saturday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m., in Searsport.

To keep the calendar useful and readable, we don’t post regularly recurring events (for example, an ongoing fitness class or month-long shows), but we do welcome special sessions, series kickoffs, and standalone workshops.
