BLUE HILL –Any families in need of warm clothing for their children this winter may request it through a program that is now in its 38th year. The deadline to request clothing is Nov. 20.
Christmas Angels provides gifts of warm clothing to children in need who live on the Blue Hill Peninsula. To receive the clothing, parents and caregivers should pick up a request form at their child’s school office. Several food pantries and local churches and food pantries, including the Blue Hill Congregational Church at 22 Tenney Hill in Blue Hill, also have the form. For more information, call 374-2891 to have a form mailed or emailed to you.
Children from newborns to 18 years old who are full-time residents of Blue Hill, Brooklin, Brooksville, Castine, Deer Isle, Penobscot, Sedgwick, Stonington, or Surry are eligible for this program. All requests must be received by Nov. 20. Delivery of gifts will be during the first two weeks of December.
Originally coordinated by Four Town Nursing, Christmas Angels was adopted by the Blue Hill Congregational Church in 1989. The Christmas Angels program relies on the generosity of individuals, clubs, and businesses for its funding.
Last year, 118 children from nearly 50 families received gifts through the program. To volunteer to be an angel and sponsor a child or family, email christmasangels@bluehillcongregational.org. Each angel will be provided a detailed list of the child’s clothing wishes.
Parents will also be able to choose a book and stuffed animal for their children.
